Land of Mystic Tranquility and Nature’s paradise is what we describe “Chittilamcherry” . Like the proverb says “Home is where heart is”, I call this place my home.

SOME HISTORY


The name “Chittilamcherry” is derived from the place itself. It got the name from Chuttum Illam meaning Homes all around. Well there is not a lot of history associated however the cult of Odiyan was being followed here like many other places in Palakkad, Kerala. While the director of Odiyan movie did not do justice with the movie, the actual cult was intense which got diminished during the start of British Modern era.

The other noticeable history being the start of the first school in Chittilamcherry which was way back in 1880’s even before Independence. MNKMHSS School is one of the oldest school in Kerala.

ECONOMY

Agriculture has been the primary source of income. While Palakkad is called the rice bowl of Kerala, Chittilamcherry does contribute to the its very economy which is Paddy field. During the changes of Modern era, Chittilamcherry adapted to the new world. Modern Infrastructure, IT, Banking, Various financial businesses and Internet Facilities are part of the modern era changes. Chittilamcherry became a Modern Village which is part of Melarcode Panchayath and its part of Alathur Taluk.

FESTIVALS & CELEBRATIONS

Chittilamcherry Vela is one of the main festivals observed every year which falls either on 28th or 29th of April. Vela is celebrated with full grandeur and everyone in and around come together to celebrate this awesomeness irrespective of religion, caste and creed. Designed Illumination structures with Panchavadyam, Fireworks, Stage Programmes are the highlights of the festival which lasts for three days.

Another one being Aarattu Villaku which lasts for almost 10 days with Various cultural events taking place every single day.

BOUNDARIES

Chittilamcherry is at crucial juncture falling on state Highway 58. To the North is Alathur (Taluk), South is Ayalur, East is Nemmara (Famous of Nemmara/Vallanghi Vela) and West is Vadakkencherry (Not to be mistaken with Wadakkanchery, Thrissur).

Palakkad District is just 30 kms away and Thrissur is 42 Kms from Chittilamcherry. It’s easy commute to both the places as it falls almost rightly at the center of both the districts.
